U.S. Entry Waivers

Your next opportunity could be across the border.

Certain criminal records and immigration circumstances can affect your ability to enter the United States. Depending on your situation, a U.S. Entry Waiver may be required.

Who may need a waiver

  • People previously refused entry to the U.S.
  • People with a criminal record planning to travel
  • People with a Canadian Record Suspension who have questions about entry
  • Anyone unsure what the waiver process involves

Record Suspensions and U.S. entry

A Canadian Record Suspension does not automatically establish U.S. admissibility. U.S. authorities may still have access to records and can make their own determination.

Understanding the waiver process

For some travellers who are inadmissible, an advance permission application (often Form I-192) may be appropriate. Requirements depend on citizenship and the reason for inadmissibility. Supporting records, fingerprints and evidence of rehabilitation may be needed. During a consultation, we explain which process applies and what documents to prepare.
